1.(a) Stefano became obsessed with the "monster", he starts watching it everyday. He continues to risk his life because he loves sailing around the ocean. (b) I think Stefano would have lived a lot longer and would have became very rich and happy. (c) If The Colomber was not real I think the father would be his "monster" because he died and was a captain who loved sailing and his son, Stefano, loved being on a boat and seafaring, so he would look after him at sea and make sure nothing bad would happen to him. (d) The author is trying to tell us that, even though people were telling him that the Colomber is bad, and will kill you, you should not always listen to the stories because you never know what is true and what isn't. To not judge a book by its cover. 2. Phosphorescent, Perla Del Mare, emporium, sea captian, The Colomber, seafaring, sea monster, companions, second officer, harpoon.

1. (A) Stefano did not listen to his father. He told Stefano to stay as far away as possible and even tried to send him away to the city many miles away. Something always seemed to pull him back to the sea and that would be the colomber. Stefano also wanted to prove his father wrong. His first trip out to see his father took him immediately back to shore. All Stefano wanted was to be just like his father and he took that away from him. Of course he's going to want to prove it to him! His father's wife sold his boat and didn’t give it to Stefano. He wanted to know why the colomber was following him and that is why when he grew old he faced the colomber. He was going to kill it if it tried to eat him and if it wasn't he would find out answers and he did.
1. (B) I believe that Stefano would have found the colomber earlier in his life, he would have gone back to the city. Stefano's goal was to get the colomber out of his life and be like his father. His father told him never to go out to see again or he would be attacked, but Stefano needed to find that out himself. If Stefano would have gone out on he small boat earlier in his boating career, he would have met the colomber and gotten the pearl only to go back to the city. If he would have met it when his father was alive he could've proven him wrong.
1.(C) I believe he would go back to sea. I feel this way because his father took him out to sea his first time and told him never to go back because of the colomber. If the colomber wasn't real, his father would have never said not to go back. Stefano also wouldn't be curious about what the colomber wanted. His father probably would have left his boat to Stefano and he would already be a sailor. If there was no colomber, then nothing in the story would have happened.
1. (D) In this story, The Colomber, Stefano's father told him never to go back to sea because of a deadly sea creature that haunted Stefano and wanted to eat him. All Stefano ever wanted was to own a huge boat and be just like his father. Stefano was determined to do so even if his father said no. The author is trying to say not to let anyone get in the way of your dreams. If you want to persure something or anything than you should do so and not let anyone stop you. Stefano did that and look where it got him. The colomber didn’t want to eat him, it wanted to give Stefano a valuable pearl.

1 a) Even though he had a good life inland, the "attraction of the abyss" to great a force for him to resist. b) He would have gotten the pearl earlier and livided a luckier and happier life free from the Colomber. c) I think it is the fear of fear itself. People have told him how dangerous the "colomber" is and how it will kill him. Stefano runs away from the illision that people have created for him. d)The moral of the story; don't lets fear control you. Fear isn't making decisions for you, it dosen't keep you from walking down a dark street in the middle of the night, that is your choice. You are making those decisions so fear should not and dose not control your actions or the way you live.

1a. For Stefano, the sea beckons him to come closer. When he's on a boat, he still feels like he's away and he becomes bitter because he wants to make the colomber leave him be. Even though he tries hard to lose the colomber, it follows him, and he becomes obsessed with the thought of it when he is inland or away from it. He never got the peace of mind he was looking for because the colomber had that within the Perla del Mare, along with luck, power, and love.
1b. If he were to of met the colomber instead of going away from it, he would have prospered more than any other man, and he would have found peace in his mind.
1c. If the columber wasn't real, then maybe what lured him back to sea was the passion that he felt for sea-fairing. His father sent him away from it at a young age, even though he had already made up his mind that it was his dream job. Maybe his passion drove him to sail yet he never prospered because he was too afraid to be who he was growing up.
1d. Throughout the story The Columber, the author tried to show you that you have to follow your dreams, or your mind will continuously wish you had, constantly thinking about it, making you mad with the ideas. If he would have done what he enjoyed, he would have had a wonderful life full of joy and love. Instead, he ran away from it to do other jobs, yet they never satisfied him. If he had just done a job that he felt happy with, he would be happy overall.

1a.) Stefano was obsessed with the idea of the colomber waiting for him and he was curious as to why. He was warned about the colomber by his father but he was too curious to stay away. He was willing to risk his life to figure it out. 1b.)I think he would have had a better life because he wouldn’t have spent all those years worrying and being curious and unhappy. He could have begun sailing again and could have been more like his father. 1c.)If the colomber wasn’t real, I think Stefanos monster was his mind consistantly telling him that he had to face his fears. He ended up worrying about it so much that he didn’t get to live his life as he wanted and when he finally got the courage to face the colomber, he passed away. 1d.) I think the author is trying to tell us that we should try to face our fears before they are all we waste our time thinking about. Stefano fears the colomber for so long and wastes his entire life worrying about it. When he finally faces the colomber its already too late. 2.)Obsession fatal desire siege obstinately intrepid dissuaded intermittently tormented impulse

1a:I Explain his behavior as brave , He Continues to risk at sea because I think he is determind to do what his father did for living.
1b:He would've had a better life Because the colomber followed him just to give Stefano a phosphorescent sphere that brought luck, power, love, and peace of mind.
1c:If the Colomber wasn't real.Stefano's "monster" would had just be an carnivorous sea creature wanting to prey on him, maybe a great white shark . Because since the Colomber was "sea monster"following a man his whole life . A Predator Similar like the Colomber is a great white.
1d:I think the author is trying to tell us to not let our fears hold us back. Because in the story he shows Stefano determind to do what he wants to do dispite having a "sea monster" following him his whole life.

1A. He wanted to do what his father had loved to do. After he saw the Colomber for the first time, his father banned him from going back to the sea. After his father died, his mother sold his ship, making it even more difficult for Stefano to do what he wanted to do, and that was sailing.
1B. I believe he would have killed the Colomber before it spoke to him and gave him the Perla del Mare.
1C. The "monster" was the fact that he could not show his father that he had become a great sailor. He was banished to land by his father and therefore could not sail on the seas, which is what he dreamed of doing. After his father died, he went back to the sea, trying to fufill his father's passion. He was tormented by the thought that he would never be able to impress his father. That thought is represented by the Colomber.
1D. I think the author is trying to tell us that not everything is what people say it is. Everybody said that the Colomber was out to kill Stefano, but in reality, it wanted to help him and give him a better life.

1 a His behavior is very eager because he keeps on risking his life knowing people thought he couldnt find the colomber. b If Stefano faced the colomber earlier in life I think he would of killed the colomber becacuse he would want to prove it to everybody. c I think the monster that kept him coming back to sea was being a sailor because he wanted to fufill his dads dream. d The author is trying to tell us to keep trying because he kept looking for it and then he finally found the colomber in the end in the end. 2 Intermittenly, Scrutinized, Obstinately, Expidient, Inexorable, Abyss, Intrepid, Indomitable, Placid, Sever

1a.He risks his life at sea because he loves being at the sea like his father. He didn’t want to give up his dream just because of a fish.He didn’t tell his mother because he knew she would ot allow him to go back at sea. 1b.I think he would have had a better life and felt at peace but he waited to long and now his life is almost over. He would have been even richer and mor famous if had the pearl the colomber was trying to give to him. 1c.Stefanos's monster was the fear in his mind he thought that something was always after him but in the end nothing was. The only thing that was keeping him away from the sea were his father and the story of the colomber. He kept thinking that if he went to sea the "monster" would get him. 1d.The author is trying to tell us not to be afraid and face our fears. If you don’t face your fears you will be hunted for the rest of your life. Stefano waited too long to face the the fear and even wasted the time of the colomber. 2. 1a) He risked his life sailing so he could continue his family's trade of becoming a salior. He wanted to become a salior so he could follow in his fathers footsteps.1b) If he had confronted the colomber earlier in his life he would have power, luck, and love in his life.1c) If the monster was not real i think it is like his father.I think this, because his father wanted him to stay on land and the colomber wants to chase him off the sea.1d)I think the meaning is confront you problems early in your life so you can live a nice and peaceful life.2 Phosphorescent, resigned, dissuaded, profitably, emporrium, synonymous, strife, hostile, uninterrupted, and fundamentally.

1a.Because he waned to follow in his fathers steps and be a sailor. 1b.I don’t think that the colomber would attack him because he would have been with his dad and the colomber dosent attack unlees your by your self. 1c.I think it could be his imagination because he might of seen a random shark and his dad told him about the story he heard of the colomber and now thinks he see's the colomber every time he goes to sea. 1d.The author is trying to tell you to purse your dream even if you think theirs something bad to your dream and to confront what you think is bad about your dream.

1.A. He knew his destiny was to be devoured by this monsterous creature, it was just a matter of when. Stefano would die eventually and he also knew exactly how he would pass. Therefor, he could not be afraid of anything since nothing else was supposed to make him die. 1.B. Stefano's father might not have died and he would have had even better success and fortune throughout his life. 1.C. I think that if the colomber wasn’t real, Stefano's monster was just a made up part of his imagination. Everyone who knew about his colomber may have pretended to see it just to scare him. Stefano eventually went back to sea because he wanted to prove them wrong and show that he was no longer scared. 1.D. Not everything is as it seems or what people say. This reminds me of rumors being spread. The "fact" can change dramatically and become a false statement over a short period of time. 2. 1) vessel 2) perceive 3) pursue 4) expedient 5) hostile 6) insistent 7) indomitable 8) abyss 9) imploringly 10) condemn

(a)His behavior was obsessive and complulsive, he was so obsessed with this creature that he spent his entire, meaningless life striving to hunt it down and meet his end. He continues to go head on to this colombre, or attempt to, because it bothered him so much that it was constantly on his mind and he saw it everywhere. (b)He wouldn’t of been so disappointed when the colombre didn’t eat him (this was such a dissapointing plot twist). (c)The author is trying to tell us the cliché 'don’t judge a book by its cover' but with an extreme example. I honestly thought Stefano was going to be eaten or harmed but it turned out the colombre was docile and just wanted to give him a glowing pearl.
