a. If you knew that something intended to have you for dinner, you’d probably stay as far away as possible. Stefano doesn’t do that. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea. Stefano was chosen by The Colomber. So he wanted to end it and kill The Colomber.

1a) Stefano doesn’t stay away because he loved the sea from a young age. After knowing what the Colomber was and avoiding it his whole life, Stefano was probably really curious, causing him to stay.
1b) If Stefano would have faced the Colomber sooner, he probably would have lived a great life.
1c) Stefano’s “monster” was his fear. His dad told him to stay away from the sea because it was dangerous. Even though Stefano loved the sea, he didn’t want to disappoint his dad.
1d) At the end of the story, Stefano went out at sea to meet the Colomber and it didn’t end up being as bad as he thought. I think the author is telling us to face our fears because they probably aren’t always as bad as we make them in our heads.
2) The 5 words I found are seafaring, Colomber, siege, obstinately, and assurance.
