a. If you knew that something intended to have you for dinner, you’d probably stay as far away as possible. Stefano doesn’t do that. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea? He continues to risk his life because he feels like the monster could be nice to him. Stefano wants to get rid of him too so he doesn’t have to worry about all the bad stuff that the Colomber would haunt him with.
b. What do you think would have happened to Stefano if he had faced the colomber earlier in his life? He would’ve saw that the Colomber only wanted to give him a pearl, not doom him for the rest of his life. Stefano would be happy and relieved at an earlier age.
c. Let’s assume that the colomber wasn’t real. If it wasn’t, what was Stefano’s “monster” that kept him coming back to the sea? Explain your answer. His monster would be his conscious. We all have one. Maybe it was telling him there was something out there that wanted to haunt him. The conscious had to make him go out and see what it was for himself.
d. There’s more to this story than meets the eye. What is the author trying to tell us through the story of Stefano in The Colomber? Explain. You should go after the problems not sit there and wait and let it get worse. Go and see what’s going on then try and fix it. Don’t want to waste your life waiting for something that you think is bad when it might turn out good.

a) Stefano keeps going back to sea because he has “an indomitable impulse.” b) He didn’t have to buy a boat then. Stefano wouldn’t be as unhappy and bitter as he was throughout his life. c) I think the monster was a symbol of fear which for Stefano was death. He meets the Colomber and nothing bad happens, but he was consumed with fear which then lead him to meet the monster. d) The author is trying to tell us not to live in fear throughout your life or else you will become bitter. 2)Stefano Colomber Ocean Boat Unhappy

A) His behavior is basically fearless and brave because his dad thinks he is going to get eaten by the Colomber, but he takes a risk and pays a visit to the Colomber. He continues to risk his life at sea because he is determined to see what the Colomber wants with him. B)It would of have been the same thing just like when he faced it later in life. C)It reminded him of his dad and his love for being at sea and observing it, and him wanting to take up his father’s trade. D)The author is trying to tell us that even though something is not real to others, it can be real to us and have a strong meaning to us individuals 2)Obstinately, expedient, placid, abyss, and sever

a. He continues to risk his life so he can be on the sea. And so he could be like his father and follow his father’s footsteps. b. He would of gotten the pearl earlier in his life and wouldn’t grow old and die right after he got it from the colomber. He would have also gotten good luck when he was sailing from him having the pearl in his possession.
c. It would have been a huge shark that is very strong that follows him for his whole life. Because a colomber is a very big and very strong shark. In real life though it would have tried to kill him and it wouldn’t talk.
d. Not to judge a book by its cover. In the story The Colomber, Stefano’s father told him that the colomber is a very mean shark that chooses a person and follows them till they devour that person. The colomber is a messenger.

a. If you knew that something intended to have you for dinner, you’d probably stay as far away as possible. Stefano doesn’t do that. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea? He wanted to follow in his dads footsteps and follow the families’ tradition. And to find out what the Colomber actually is.
b. What do you think would have happened to Stefano if he had faced the colomber earlier in his life? He would not have grown old and bitter like he did. And he could’ve kept following his dream of being a sailor like his father.
c. Let’s assume that the colomber wasn’t real. If it wasn’t, what was Stefano’s “monster” that kept him coming back to the sea? Explain your answer. Well it all started when his dad told him the story. When he saw it the first time it could’ve been a shark or something else, but once the dad told him he created his own monster that he thought was there but it wasn’t it was just his mind playing tricks on him.
d. There’s more to this story than meets the eye. What is the author trying to tell us through the story of Stefano in The Colomber? Explain. The author is telling us to not let what someone says you can’t do to stop you from doing what you like. Just like in the story when Stefano stayed on land like his dad told him to. But when his dad died he immediately quit his job and bought a boat, but it was too late because he started growing old and bitter

If you knew that something intended to have you for dinner, you’d probably stay as far away as possible. Stefano doesn’t do that. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea? He tries to wear out the creature by sailing back and forth, making it follow him. He also felt that he couldn’t sever himself from it.
b. What do you think would have happened to Stefano if he had faced the colomber earlier in his life? His life would’ve been much happier and not spent entirely in fear.
c. Let’s assume that the colomber wasn’t real. If it wasn’t, what was Stefano’s “monster” that kept him coming back to the sea? Explain your answer. His father did. His father had scared him about the story of the Colomber and the rest of his life was spent in fear of the Colomber and of returning to the sea. He later came back to the sea and spent his life sailing. When he got older, he decided to face the Colomber, which told Stefano it was a messenger and gave him the Perla de Mare. The Perla de Mare brought luck, power, love, and peace of mind to whoever owned it. It appeared, though, to be just an ordinary stone. He just believed it to be the Perla de Mare because his life was just scared for his whole life.
d. There’s more to this story than meets the eye. What is the author trying to tell us through the story of Stefano in The Colomber? Explain. Don’t always believe what you hear. His father told him a story about the Colomber and what it is, and it terrified him. He spent most of the rest of his life feeling the same way.

a. If you knew that something intended to have you for dinner, you’d probably stay as far away as possible. Stefano doesn’t do that. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea? The feeling of the colomber waiting for him kept bringing him back to the sea because it has escorted him from one end of the world to the other with a faithfulness that not even the noblest friend could have shown.
b. What do you think would have happened to Stefano if he had faced the colomber earlier in his life? He would have been happy and wouldn’t have felt like returning to the sea to face the colomber and sailing the ends of the earth. He also would have lived a happy life.
c. Let’s assume that the colomber wasn’t real. If it wasn’t, what was Stefano’s “monster” that kept him coming back to the sea? Explain your answer. It was a messenger that kept Stefano coming back to the sea. Stefano’s curiosity about it kept him wondering what the monster really wanted other than to eat him.sd
d. Their’s more to this story than meets the eye. What is the author trying to tell us through the story of Stefano in The Colomber? Explain. Thing aren’t like what they seem. The colomber is said to devour all that it choses but it was told to give Stefano something instead.

With the exception of the vocabulary, each question requires responses of complete sentences. The questions are as follows (12 points): a. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea? Stefano continues to risk his life at sea because he wanted to prove to his family that he could find out what the colomber was.
b. What do you think would have happened to Stefano if he had faced the colomber earlier in his life? Stefano would have realized that the colomber really wanted to just ruin his life and not make it what it turned out to be after he had stayed on land and kept going back to sea, his life would have been so miserable.
c. Let’s assume that the colomber wasn’t real. If it wasn’t, what was Stefano’s “monster” that kept him coming back to the sea? Explain your answer. I feel like Stefano’s “monster” kept getting into his head because he thought about it too much then thought it was real when it really wasn’t.
d. There’s more to this story than meets the eye. What is the author trying to tell us through the story of Stefano in The Colomber? Explain. The author is trying to tell us that if you are having a problem, take care of it before it gets worse and starts to ruin your life. a. He is extremely attracted to the idea of something following him and it makes him anxious. He is more likely seeing if it really will follow him anywhere.
b. He would have lived a prosperous life, with wealth and fame.
c.A feeling of fear that he won’t become prosperous like his father. The beast would have been a mirage or hallucination of his fears. His fear is ironic as what he feared most is opposite of what the colomber gave Stefano at the end of the story. A pearl that gave a prosperous, wealthy, and long life
d.That if you let your fears get to you and haunt you, you waste your time chasing your fears and not your dreams. Stephano wasted his life chasing his fears to find out it was all for nothing.
2. Mirage, Hostile, Colmber, Inexorable, Obstinacy

A)He is very curious about the Colomber and wants to live his life the way he wanted to as a kid out on the seas. He decides to live his life out on the sea because he keeps getting some fear of it and wants to overcome his fear. He is not going to allow the Colomber to control his life.
B)If Stefano had faced the Colomber earlier he probably could have lived his life way better. He probably could have gone onto living his life the way he wanted to at an earlier start and wouldn’t have to be afraid anymore.
C)Stefano’s monster represented his fear. He was afraid to face his fears and didn’t live the life the way he wanted to. When Stefano faced his fears he realized it was nothing to be afraid of.
D)The author tries to tell the readers to face your fears. Your life will be way better once you face your fears. Don’t keep running from your fears.

a. If you knew that something intended to have you for dinner, you’d probably stay as far away as possible. Stefano doesn’t do that. How do you explain his behavior – why does he continue to risk his life at sea? Stefano doesn’t listen because he wants to come face to face to the Colomber and see what the colomber does
b. What do you think would have happened to Stefano if he had faced the colomber earlier in his life? I think if Stefano faced the Colomber earlier in his life then he would have gotten the pearl earlier and he didn’t have to spend his whole life at the sea.
c. Let’s assume that the colomber wasn’t real. If it wasn’t, what was Stefano’s “monster” that kept him coming back to the sea? Explain your answer. Stefano’s monster is determination because when he would have free time after on is summer vacations he would go to the pier and check if the colomber is there. He kept on going to the see to look for the colomber.
d. There’s more to this story than meets the eye. What is the author trying to tell us through the story of Stefano in The Colomber? Explain. I think the author is trying to say that Stefano is a very determined sailor that tries to go head to head with the colomber and when he does the colomber gave him a pearl which I think he was givin the pearl because of his bravery.
