1)PREDATOR TO PREY 2)1Zarroff is hunting Rainsford but at the end of the story on page 28 Rainsford is attacking Zaroff. 2 Usually the humans are the apex predator but in this story on pages 20-21 it reveals that humans are what Zaroff uses as game. 3 Rainsford is on a boat but then falls off usually he could have been hunting octopus but now the octopus might be hunting him. 3)Rainsford used to wonder about what the animals thought about before he killed them. He wondered if they felt fear or not. He pitied them. But at the end of this story he has no remorse for them. 4) 1 Rainsford vs. Zaroff -external -Pg.28 2 Zaroff vs. Boredom -internal -Pg 20-21 3 Ivan vs. Hunting dogs –external-Pg. 27 5)1 Pg.14 Rainsford says ‘hunting is the best sport in the world, for the hunter not the jaguar’ this shows he is conserened to know what the jaguar feels. 2 Pg. 21 Rainsford says ‘surely my experiences in the war did not make me condone coldblooded murder’ this shows that Rainsford is detested by the fact of hunting people. 3 Pg.19 Rainsford says ‘but what game-’ that shows he is curios to know what Zaroff hunts. 6)1ceased-Pg.19 to stop 2debacle-Pg19 problem 3imported-Pg19 to get from another country 4pursuer-Pg26 someone chasing someone or something 5jagged-Pg15 rough sharp points

1. The Hunt
2. “I live for danger, Mr. Rainsford.” Page 19. “Me He made a hunter. My hand was made for the trigger, my father said.” Page 19. “No animal had a chance with me anymore.” Page 20.
3. Rainsford won the game and the General was finally beat. Rainsford killed the General and then slept in his bed.
4. Rainsford vs. Zaroff, they are hunting each other. Zaroff vs. Traps, Rainsford had put up traps to kill Zaroff. Rainsford vs. forest, he doesn’t know it like Zaroff knows if.
Rainsford vs. thoughts, doesn’t know how he is going to hunt down Zaroff. Rainsford vs. fear, is scared of being killed. Zaroff vs. thought, thinking off places where Rainsford could be.
5. Illumination- lighting or light. “The lights from the window sent a flickering illumination that made grotesque patterns;”
Deplorable- regrettable; very bad. “The deplorable part of it was that Lazarus followed him.”
Indolently- lazily. “Rainsford, reclining in a steamer chair, indolently puffed on his favorite brier.”
Amenities- comforts and conveniences. “We do our best to preserve the amenities of civilization here.”
Disarming- removing or lessening suspicions or fears. “Don’t be alarmed,” said Rainsford, with a smile whish he hoped was disarming.”

1. The Human Hunter.
2. On page 20, Zaroff said, “My dear fellow, there is one animal that can.” He was referring to humans and saying that he hunts humans. Then on page 21, Zaroff also says, “I hunt the scum of the earth- sailors from tramp ships- lascars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels…” Finally, on the bottom of page 21, Zaroff finlly says, “I give him a supply of food and an excellent hunting knife. I give him three hours’ start. I am to follow, armed only with a pistol of the smallest caliber and range.” Zarroff is a hunter, but he hunts humans, therefor my new title would be The Human Hunter.
3. At the end of the story, Rainsford turns from being the hunted to the hunter. When Zaroff finds Rainsford in his room, he is astonished to see that Rainsford is still alive. Then Rainsford turns the table and we can imply from the text that he kills Zaroff. This event could change our interpretation because originally we think that Rainsford would never harm somebody from the way he talks to Zaroff in the beginning when he first gets to the island. Now we see that Rainsford is capable of murder when he is pushed that far. The message is that people are capable of almost anything, good or bad, when pushed over the edge.
4. Rainsford vs. Curosity (Internal) Rainsford gets too curious when he hears gunshots, and it causes him to fall off the ship. Rainsford vs. Ability to Swim (Internal) Rainsford is not a fast enough swimmer to get back to the boat. Rainsford vs. Nerve (Internal) Rainsford keeps telling himself to keep his nerve because he is struggling in the situation to do that. Rainsford vs. Ivan (External) Rainsford tries to talk to Ivan when Ivan has a gun to Rainsford’s head, but Ivan can’t understand. Rainsford vs. Zaroff (External) Rainsford must try to elude Zaroff or else Zaroff will catch him and kill him when he is hunting. Ivan vs. Rainsford (External) Ivan gets hit by a knife from a trap that Rainsford set up, causing him to die.
5. On page 25, when Zaroff is approaching Rainsford a second time, Rainsford has a trap set up in which a tree falls on Zaroff. This shows that Rainsford is starting to think smarter and become more aggressive. Then on page 26, Rainsford sets up a trap to try and kill Zaroff. This fails, but does kill one of Zaroff’s dogs. This is the first time in the story that we see Rainsford try to kill somebody. It shows that Rainsford is becoming more cold-blooded. Finally, on page 28, Rainsford is in Zaroff’s room where he surprises Zaroff. He then kills Zaroff. Rainsford has completely changed and is now much less caring and thoughtful and more of a “beast at bay”, as described in the story.
6. 1. Hunter- “You’re a big game hunter, not a philosopher.” A person who hunts game or other wild animals for food or in sport. 2. Nerves- “Didn’t you notice that the crews nerves seemed a little bit jumpy today?” strength, vigor, or energy 3. Menacing- “The menacing look in the eyes did not change.” something that threatens to cause evil, harm, injury, etc.; a threat 4. Civilized- “Civilized? And you shoot down men?” having an advanced or humane culture, society, etc. 5. Escaped- “Nothing escaped those searching black eyes, no crushed blade of grass, no bent twig, no mark, no matter how faint, in the moss.” to slip or get away, as from confinement or restraint; gain or regain liberty

1) “The Hunter.” 2)“’Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.’” Page 20. “…’No other hunting compares with it for an instant.’” Page 20. “…’Every day I hunt, and I never grow bored now, for I have a quarry with which I can match my wits.’” Page 20. 3)Rainsford was being hunted but at the end, he is hunting Zaroff. You can trust no one because they can always turn their back on you. Rainsford trusted Zaroff in the beginning of the story up until he told Rainsford that he hunts humans, or the “most dangerous game.” 4)Internal- Rainsford vs. Comfort because he feel felt relaxed when he walked into Zaroff’s home, Rainsford vs. Fear because he was fell off the boat, Rainsfrod vs. Determination becausehe wanted to swim to shore. External- Ivan vs. Knife Trap because the knife trap killed Ivan when Rainsford set up the trap, Rainsford vs. Zaroff because Zaroff wanted to hunt and kill Rainsford, Rainsford vs. Hunting because he loves to hunt and at the end of the story, he hunts Zaroff. 5)Rainsford only hunts animals on page 19. Rainsford hunts Zaroff on page 27. Rainsford possibly kills Zaroff on page 28. 6)Au revoir- French word for good-bye “…Au revoir, Mr. Rainsford, au revoir.” Grotesque- relating to, or characteristic of the grotesque, fanciful or bizarre “…That made grotesque patterns…” Yacht- a boat “…Its think warm blackness in upon the yacht…” Ceased- to stop “’…Hunting had ceased to be what you call a sporting proposition.’” Ill-founded- based on weak evidence, illogical reasoning “…Your scruples are quite ill-founded.’

1.. The Blindside. 2.“ I had to event a new animal to hunt, he said.” Page 20. “ General Zaroff was still on his feet, but Ivan was not.” Page 27. “ How in God’s name did you get here?” ( When Rainsford was behind the curtain) Page 28. All of those examples from the book show how one thought something was going to happen but then it either ended up being the complete opposite/not what they were originally thinking. Hence, why we named our title The Blindside because it had a lot of plot twists that no one was really expecting to happen. 3.The change that happened was instead of Zaroff trying to kill Rainsford, Rainsford ended up killing Zaroff at the end. It overall changed our influences because we originally assumed that Zaroff was going to kill Rainsford by setting up all of those traps but then Rainsford came back into his house after he jumped off the cliff and hid behind the curtain waiting for Zaroff to come in his room. After that, Rainsford killed Zaroff and slept in his bed which no one saw coming. 4.Rainsford vs. Nature. Examples- “ Then as he stepped forward his foot sank into the ooze.” Page-26. Rainsford vs. Zaroff. Examples- “ We will hunt you and I.” Rainsford vs. Himself. Examples- “ He struggled up to surface and try to cry out.” Zaroff vs. Rainsford. Examples- “ How in God’s name did you get here?” Rainsford vs. Nature. Examples- When he jumps off a cliff into the sea. Zaroff vs. Rainsford. Examples- When Zaroff can not find Rainsford in the forest. 5. “ He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided” Page-28 “ I am still a beast at bay.” Page-28 “ Better luck another time.” Page-28. All of these examples explain how he went from not knowing who Zaroff really was and finally figured out what game he was trying to play and conquered him at it. Throughout the story Rainsford definitely got more brave and determined to “win.” 6.1. Brute- a savagely violent person or animal. Sent.- “ It’s clear that the brute put up a fight.” 2. Vigor- physical strength and good health. Sent.- “ Sleep had given him new vigor.” 3. Mystified- Utterly bewilder or perplex. Sent.- “ Rainsford sprang up and moved quickly to the rail, mystified.” 4. Astrakhan- The dark curly fleece of young karakul lambs from central Asia. Sent.- “ He was dressed in uniform, a black uniform trimmed with gray astrakhan. 5.Cultivated- refined and well educated. Sent.- “ In a cultivated voice marked by a slight accent that gave it added precision and deliberateness…”

1.)Hide and go Seek 2.1.)In the story, Rainsford is hiding while Zaroff is seeking. Page 24-28 2.2.)The dogs then go hunting for Rainsford. Page 25 2.3.)Rainsford is hunting Zaroff at the end like the game Hide and go Seek. Page 28 3.)At the end, Rainsford becomes the hunter and Zaroff is being hunted. It seems as if Rainsford becomes Zaroff. Rainsford then wants to hunt the most dangerous game. Rainsford then “killed” Zaroff and slept in his bed. The role of predator and prey changes. 4.1.)Rainsford vs. Zaroff- Zaroff is hunting Rainsford-External 4.2.)Ivan vs. Knife- Ivan is wounded by the knife-External 4.3.)Rainsford vs. Ocean-Rainsford falls off the ship and almost drowns-External 4.4.)Zaroff vs. Senses-Zaroff needs to find Rainsford-Internal 4.5.)Rainsford vs. Mind- He has to not give in to panicking-Internal 4.6.)Dogs vs. Senses –The dogs need to find Rainsford-Internal 5.1.)Rainsford changes because he wants to be the hunter instead of leaving the island on page 28. 5.2.)Rainsford thought that Zaroff was sick because he hunted humans, but then Rainsford starts hunting Zaroff. 5.3.)Rainsford starts to say that he must keep his nerve towards the end he becomes smarter and starts thinking of traps to deploy. 6.1.)Nerve-firmness or courage under trying circumstances- “I must keep my nerve…” 6.2.)Cossack-a person belonging to any of certain groups of Slavs living chiefly in the southern part of Russia in Europe and forming an elite corps of horsemen - “The Cossack was the cat…” 6.3.)Hound- one of any of several breeds of dogs trained to pursue game either by sight or by scent, especially one with a long face and large drooping ears- “The baying of hounds drew nearer” 6.4.)Game-an amusement or pastime- “The Most Dangerous Game “ 6.5.)Pursuer- a person or thing that pursues-“He knew his pursuer was coming…”

1.The title of The Most Dangerous Game could change to Stranded because of Rainsford's situation
2.“He struggled up to the surface and tried to cry out, but the wash from the speeding yacht slapped him in the face and the salt water in his open mouth made him gag and strangle.” Pg.15 This supports the main title because Rainsford was left by the yacht in the middle of nowhere. “…the muttering and growling of the sea breaking on a rocky shore.” He found a seemingly deserted island and swam towards it without knowing what could possibly happen. “But what kind of men, he wondered, in so forbidding a place.” Pg.15-16 Rainsford could barely believe that any man would survive or live in such an isolated place.
3.Rainsford goes from prey to predator as he killed Zaroff and slept in his bed. “The general made one of his deepest bows. ‘I see.’ he said. ‘Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford…’ He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.” This change could influence our interpretation for the message because the initial message could have changed depending on the stand point of the reader. To different readers the message could have been many things to them, but the lesson or message they took away could have changed or couldn't have.
4.Internal: 1) Rainsford vs. fear. “…but, the chance was slender and grew more slender as the yacht raced on.” Pg. 15 2) Rainsford vs. curiosity “Rainsford sprang up and moved quickly to the rail, mystified. He strained his eyes in the direction from which the reports had come, but it was like trying to see through a blanket." 3) Rainsford vs. panic "....he had plunged along, spurred on by the sharp rowels of something very like panic." External: 1)Rainsford vs. Ocean. "The cry was pinched off short as the blood-warm waters of the Carribean Sea closed over his head." pg.14 2) Rainsford vs. Ivan "In his hand the man held a long-barreled revolver, and he was pointing it straight at Rainsford's heart. pg.16 3) Zaroff vs. Rainsford "I congratulate you' he said. 'You have won the game." "One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep is this very excellent bed. On gaurd, Rainsford..."
5.1) "You're a big game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?' 'Perhaps the jaguar does,' observed Whitney. 'Bah! they've no understanding.' 'Even so, I rather think they understand one thing- fear. The fear of pain and the fear of death.' 'Nonsense.' laughed Rainsford" Pg.14 2) "He saw that straight flight was futile; inevitably it would bring him face to face with the sea." pg. 24 3) "Rainsford did not smile. 'I am still a beast at bay.' he said in a low, hoarse voice. 'Get ready, General Zaroff."
6.1)Snarled. "An unbroken front os snarled and ragged jungle fringed the shore." pg.16 2)Sensuous. "The sensuous drowsiness of the night was on him." pg.14 3)Ardent. "...and he was an ardent sportsman." pg. 19 4)Bewilderment. "Rainsford showed bewilderment on his face." pg.20 5)Grotesque. "The lights from the windows sent a flickering illumination that made grotesque patterns on the courtyard below,...." pg.22

1. The Hunter and The Hunted 2. . Page 28 “On guard, Rainsford….” “He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.” This shows that Rainsford fought Zaroff and won, showing that Rainsford was the hunter and Zaroff was the hunted. “It’s a game, you see,” “I suggest to one of them that we go hunting. I give him a supply of food and an excellent hunting knife. I give him three hours’ start. I am to follow, armed only with a pistol of the smallest caliber and range. If my quarry eludes me for three whole days, he wins the game. If I find him… he loses.” This shows that Zaroff is the hunter and his company is the hunted. “Some wounded thing, by evidence a large animal, had thrashed about in the underbrush…” “A small glittering object not far away caught Rainsford’s eye and he picked it up. It was an empty cartridge.” This shows that the person that shot the animal, possibly Zaroff, is the hunter, and the animal is the hunted.
3. . He goes from being the hunter to being the hunted. It changes the interpretation by having Rainsford go from a person that hunts to being a person that is hunted. It changes the dynamic of the story.
4. Rainsford vs. Dogs p. 26 “Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of my best dogs…” Rainsford vs. Zaroff p. 28 “…On guard, Rainsford…” Rainsford vs. Ivan p. 27 “But Ivan was not The knife, driven by the recoil of the springing tree, had not wholly failed.” Rainsford vs. Nerves p. 27 “Nerve, nerve, nerve!” Rainsford vs. Eyesight p. 16 “Mirage, thought Rainsford.” Rainsford vs. Gravity p. 14 “ … a short hoarse crycame from his lips as he realized he had reached too far and lost his balance.

JORNEY, in the beginning of the story Rainsford is on a boat and he falls off. He notices that the RAINSFRODS boat is going too fast for him to swim after the boat and its just pretty much a journey from there on. Rainsford fell off the boat. - page 14 Rainsford thinks he’s being hunted by something. – page 16 Ivan points the revolver at Rainsfords heart. – page 17 . Instead of the general winning Rainsford won and the general got defeated.
Rainsford vs the sea water when he falls off the boat. page 14 Rainsford vs ivan. page 16 Rainsford Character vs outside force. vs Zaroff page 23. Character vs internal force. Rainsfords vs fear. Rainsford vs conscious. I have to keep my nerve. Rainsford vs self
. Rainsford was thinking about how he can trap or kill zeroff.

I loved this book so much! It's so terrifying because it's not just an intellectual game. It's real. I don't know how much I should say, but the story is about a man who is hunting people who answer reviews on Amazon, and then he hunts them back.
